Empowering Communities Through Cultural Tourism

Maasai Cultural Center project – Kiteto District, Tanzania

The Empowering Rural Communities Through Cultural Tourism project is a 12-month initiative implemented by KINNAPA Development Programme in Kiteto District, Manyara Region. The project empowers Maasai women and youth by establishing the Maasai Cultural Center — a community-owned facility that preserves and promotes Maasai cultural heritage while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities through cultural tourism.

In partnership with UN Tourism, the project responds to the challenges faced by skilled women and youth artisans who have limited access to tourism markets due to inadequate business skills, low product visibility, and weak market linkages — constraints that have reduced their ability to benefit from the growing tourism industry despite their rich cultural knowledge and craftsmanship.
